Why choose petGuard insurance?

Pet insurance that you can trust

What happens if your cat or dog hurts themselves or becomes unwell? No pet owner wants to think about it, but injuries or illnesses can happen with pets at any time. Our cover can help you manage the cost of vet bills, including the costs of clinical diets, behavioural issues, complementary treatment and much more.

Protection for your pets with petGuard

Best friends deserve the best possible cover

Pet insurance can help protect you against the cost of expensive vet bills, if your cat or dog needs treatment for an injury or illness. At petGuard, you can help protect the health and well-being of your pet with our wide-ranging levels of cover and at a price that suits your budget.

  • Three levels of cover

    What can we offer you?

We offer three levels of vet fee cover, these are £3,000, £6,000 or £12,000. All of them come with lots of cover benefits and are priced to suit a range of budgets.

  • It’s easy to claim

How do you claim on your pet insurance?

For the many thousands of cat and dog owners that we have helped, our aim is to make the claims process as easy and straight-forward as possible; which is why so many continue to insure with petGuard each year. We are here for you if you need us, so you can focus on helping to care for your cat or dog when they need you most.

If your pet is injured or falls ill, please call our UK based specialist pet team and will help support you through the claims process. Once we’ve received your claim, we’ll keep you updated regularly by text or phone. When it comes to paying the vet’s bill, we can either pay you, or we can pay your vet directly, it really is whichever is easiest for you.

  • Accident and Illness pet insurance

What does Accident and Illness insurance cover?

All our accident and illness policies offer lifetime pet insurance cover. What we mean by ‘Lifetime’ is that you have a veterinary fee limit that you are able to claim each policy term. This limit refills when you renew your policy each year, so you can continue to claim for ongoing, long-term conditions that may span over many years of your pet’s life. So, providing you keep your payments up to date, you renew your policy each year and subject to your Policy Terms and Conditions, we’ve got you covered.

  • Multi-pet Discount

How much is your multi-pet discount?

If you have multiple pets insured with us, you will receive a multi-pet discount for each policy that you have on cover.

Accident and Illness cover for cats, dogs, puppies and kittens

What does a petGuard policy cover you against?

With our Accident and Illness policies, you can choose between three levels of cover, offering vet fees cover up to £12,000. If you insure multiple pets with us, you can even benefit from a multi-pet discount! Take a look at what’s included in our wide-ranging cover and see what we offer, so we can try and protect the ones you love.

  • Veterinary Fees

Worried about facing an expensive vet bill?

petGuard will help to cover the cost of veterinary treatment if your cat or dog falls ill or gets injured. We appreciate that the needs of cat and dog owners are as different as each individual pet, which is why we offer three levels of vet fees cover; however, all our policies include the same wide-ranging levels of cover, regardless of which limit you choose. We also provide cover for complementary treatments prescribed by your vet, which is up to 25% of the total vet fee limit that you choose, every policy term.

Just to make you aware, you cannot claim for any illness within the first 14 days of your cover start date.

  • Cover for ongoing conditions

Will my pet insurance cover long-term conditions?

Regardless of which vet fee limit you choose, you can claim up to that limit each and every policy term. If your policy is renewed, your vet fee limit is refreshed, meaning you can claim up to that limit again over the next 12-month policy term. So, we can continue offering cover for chronic and long-term conditions each year your policy is renewed with us, subject to the Policy Terms and Conditions.

  • Emergency boarding kennel and cattery fees and daily minding

Who will look after your pet if something happens to you?

If you can’t look after your pet and you need emergency medical treatment, we can look to pay towards the costs of daily minding, kennelling, cattery or boarding fees. You can claim up to £1,500 each policy term, whilst you’re on the mend.

  • Holiday cancellation

What happens if you need to cancel your holiday or cut it short because of your poorly pet?

If you need to cancel your holiday because your pet needs lifesaving treatment, or you need to cut your holiday short because your pet has gone missing whilst you are away, we can provide cover up to £5,000 towards the costs that you are unable to recover.

Your questions answered

  • Pre-existing conditions

Do you cover pre-existing medical conditions?

Pre-existing conditions are usually identified by a vet in your cat or dog and can refer to both illnesses and injuries. Unfortunately, we can’t cover pre-existing illnesses or conditions that your pet suffers from. If you’d like more information on what is meant by ‘pre-existing conditions’ and our policy, then you can read more here.

  • Changing your pet insurance

Can I switch my pet insurance?

At petGuard, it’s easy to switch your pet insurance to us. If you’re not happy with your current pet insurance, then you can get a quote with us when your current cover is due for renewal. We’re even offering 20% off your first year of cover for new petGuard customers! If you’ve never claimed on your pet insurance for vet treatment, then switching your cover to us shouldn’t be a problem. If your cat or dog has needed vet treatment for a medical condition or injury, then that pre-existing condition will not be covered when you switch to petGuard insurance.

  • Age limits on pet insurance

Can I still get insurance for an older dog?

There is no upper age limit on our pet insurance. With our cover, you can apply for insurance for a senior cat or dog no matter their age.

  • Working dog insurance

Can I get cover for a working dog?

Yes! We are able to cover working dogs. Our insurance includes dogs that are used for shooting, hunting or working with livestock. We also cover dogs whose job it is to assist you or somebody else, e.g. a therapy dog.
